Australian Spider Beetle (Ptinus tectus)

Identification: Superficially, Australian spider beetles appear somewhat like spiders. They are somewhat round in shape and their antennas are implanted closely to each other.

Life cycle: The development from egg to beetle takes 3.5 to 4.5 months.

Commodities infested: They are omnivores, eating both plant and animal material. The larvae of spider beetles can feed on wool, hair, textiles and old wood. They often cause damage to stored materials of an organic nature where they drill holes.
